If Michigan’s greatest compliment to a Buckeye is the plaque honoring Jesse Owens for his four world records in 45 minutes at Ferry Field in 1935, then the counterpoint to that is the standing ovation given to Michigan’s Tom Harmon by the Buckeye crowd of 70,000 strong as Fritz Crisler pulled him from the field late in the game.
During the course of the action, Harmon, on his way to the Heisman Trophy,
* Passed for 151 yards and 2 touchdowns.
* Rushed for 139 yards and 2 touchdowns.
* Averaged 50 yards a punt.
* Scored 4 extra points.
* Intercepted 3 passes, one of which became his fifth touchdown.
No Wolverine had ever been so honored by the Buckeye faithful and it is unlikely that any will ever be again.
