After serving his country heroically in the Army Air Corps during World War II, Bob Chappiuis became the ringleader of Crisler’s Mad Magicians, quarterbacking Michigan’s 1947 national champions, making the cover of Time magazine, finished second in Heisman voting in 1947, and earned a spot in the College Football Hall of Fame in 1988. He was born on this day in 1923 in Toledo, Ohio.
