First Battle for the Little Brown Jug | U-M 15, Minnesota 6 – (11/20/1909)
While the Little Brown Jug itself was left behind after the 1903 game behind Minnesota and Michigan, the rivalry (actually playing for the jug) wasn’t crafted until the next time the team’s played – in 1909. The idea of the winner getting the crock was merely an idea Gopher athletic directory L.J. Cooke came up with the week of the game. Yost, according to one recollection, actually didn’t know anything about leaving the jug behind in 1903.
