On this day in 1917, Michigan, after a decade as an independent, “resumes” its membership in the conference. It will play a Big Ten conference slate in 1918.

Upon its return, including the addition of Ohio State in the interim decade, the conference is first called “The Big Ten” by sportswriters. Michigan’s 385 conference championships are, far and away, the most in the Big Ten’s history.
