Karan Higdon vs. Penn State

Plus Interest – Sights & Sounds (Michigan 42, Penn State 7)

To the legion of skittish U-M fans waiting for the shoe to drop on this season I bring good tidings:  these guys aren’t letting it happen.

The margin between Michigan and everybody else in the conference is widening.   An early two-score cushion against Rutgers and IU is going to prompt a victory tweet.  Oh man, what a feeling.

As I’ve stated before I don’t care about all the playoff talk.  Let’s just find our way to Indy on December 1st and get a crack at the title.

Manager of The Jerk Store.  James Franklin’s postgame press conference was crowded.  Like many sitting in I was wondering if the guy would pop off on Harbaugh, Michigan, his team, the refs.  Or something, right?

Nope.  Didn’t happen.  Not even close.  The man was a complete mensch.  He heaped praise on Michigan up and down, and made no excuses.  What a jerk! :)

No, #WEARE.  I stopped caring if or what time students arrive at the game.  They eventually showed up, filled up and showed out.  Good on them.  One thing that’s cool.  I noticed that section (and others) have taken to joining James Earl Jones on his line in the pregame hype video “We are the best university in the world“:

For those who haven’t made it to the stadium in a while, this is blasted out on both video boards just before the Michigan team rolls out of the tunnel and under the M GO BLUE banner.  P.S. That’s an earlier version of the video – it’s updated frequently with new highlights, etc.

Mr. DJ.  While we’re on the topic of in-stadium content…ummm..yeah:

OK, so the students seem to like the music as-as..but it would be nice to mix it up a bit.

Webber.  He got a warm welcome and that’s cool by me.   We also won the coin toss on his watch so +1 for that.  The best shot of the big guy that I’ve seen all day, taken by my photog Saturday Mark Kolanowski:

Older Michigan fans have mixed feelings about the man.   Many want a an apology or at least a dose of contrition.  Younger fans don’t know, remember or care.

A few folks told me they wished #1000SSS would just honor the entire Fab 5 – together.  I like that take.  So memo to Chris & Jalen: it’s time to smoke peace pipe and get some Michigan family love.

Mood.  Gauging the collective mood of the Michigan fanbase.  We’re heading to the ceiling after that one:

It seems like a long time ago we were in a tire fire but really, it wasn’t that long ago (from 2014):

Historical NotesVia #1000SSS:

  • Seven of the eight opponents U-M has faced so far have been held to their season low in total offense.
  • Michigan is 34-0 when rushing for 125 yards or more under coach Jim Harbaugh.
  • Fifth-year senior defensive lineman Chase Winovich’s second-quarter fumble recovery was the third of his career and the first of the season. It is the first defensive fumble recovered by U-M this year.  [Ed.  That’s crazy given all the sacks, TFLs, huge hits, etc.]
  • U-M running back Karan Higdon has seven consecutive 100-yard rushing efforts, including all six Big Ten matchups. Higdon’s seven consecutive 100-yard games put him one short of Mike Hart’s school record (eight games, 2007 season). Higdon finished the day with 132 yards and one touchdown.d

Ouch.   It’s painful losing backup QB Dylan McCaffrey.  I was ok with keeping the foot on the gas pedal (so were you), but let’s agree doing so can bring with it consequences.   This one hurts, man.  I find that it’s rare to not need a back-up QB play meaningful minutes in a given season.  We’ve been fortunate that Shea’s been healthy since the Notre Dame game.  Hoping for a healthy Patterson and a clean recovery for the talented #10.

Ace.  Great to see this guy back up there in row B:
