The great Benjamin Gaylord “Bennie” Oosterbaan, perhaps the finest athlete to ever grace Ann Arbor, was born on this day. The Muskegon native was a 9 time letterman, devoted his life to U-M after his playing days. Led U-M football to the 1948 national championship. His #47 was retired upon graduation and “unretired” into the Legends program in 2012.
