Chalmers “Bump” Elliott enrolled at the University of Michigan in 1946 and joined brother Pete Elliott on the football squad. In 1947, he played for the undefeated and untied U-M football squad known as the “Mad Magicians”. He led the Big Nine Conference in scoring, won the Chicago Tribune Silver Football trophy as the league MVP and was selected as an All-American. Elliott coached the Wolverines from 1959-1968, and led Michigan to the 1964 conference title (and 1965 Rose Bowl victory).
