The Legend Begins | U-M 4, Notre Dame 0 (2/25/2010)
They were dark times for the Michigan hockey team. Coming into the season with high expectations and the hopes of playing at Ford Field in the Frozen Four, by February, it was going to take a minor miracle to even make the NCAA tournament. The possibility the Michigan hockey might miss the post-season for the first time in 20 years was distinctly in the air.
And then Bryan Hogan got hurt in the regular season finale at Yost. Senior night was not going well, even with a 1-0 lead.
Enter Shawn Hunwick. The slight walk-on goalie, the brother of former Michigan hockey player Matt Hunwick was now between the pipes for Michigan. Michigan’s destiny was in his hands.
Hunwick began by pitching a shutout the rest of the way. There were still many more steps in the journey, but this was a very nice opening salvo.
