Thanks for reading MVictors.com. This site is run and managed by Greg Dooley [bio]. The focus is on the history and culture of Michigan athletics, mainly on football.
MVictors remains the only college athletics site solely dedicated to covering the history of a program. Coverage ignores Xs and Os and focuses on off-the-field activity. See the ‘Sights & Sounds‘ posts following games.
The most popular recurring features:
The Uniform Timeline. The most popular pages on MVictors, the rolling history of changes to the Michigan uniform since the team’s inception in 1879, through the nuance & detail of week-to-week uniform & helmet modifications.
The Mood. The next most popular and at times, painful, feature. This is a weekly temperature check on the mood of the Michigan fanbase based on a post-game (or major team announcement/event) Twitter input.
Professor and The Pundit Podcast. Launched in 2023, a podcast collaboration with longtime Ann Arbor sports radio host Steve Clarke, drops every Wednesday. We discuss the world of college athletics with a focus on Michigan football.
This Week in Michigan Football History Since 2010 on WTKA 1050AM’s Key Bank Countdown to Kick-off pregame show, ‘This Week in Michigan Football History’ examines a game, player, coach or season in U-M football lore. Since 2020 it’s been accompanied by a video piece.
Traditions. The list and stack ranking (based on current significance) of Michigan football traditions. Latest addition? The George Jewett Trophy. Sorry, Mr. Brightside is already included.
The Hate Index: One of the oldest trackers on the site measures the relative fanbase hatred between Michigan and the Big Ten (with Notre Dame tossed in.). This attempts to assess each perspective: both the view of Michigan fans toward a particular opponent and the other way around.
Rivalry Strength: Related (but different) to the Hate Index, this maps the strength of our football rivalries over time, going all the way back to Amos Along Stagg vs. Yost. It only counts actual rivals (Sorry, Penn State). This is typically tracked on 5-year intervals.
The History Calendar. After getting tired of stubbing my toe on the anniversary of huge Michigan History moments, we developed a Google Calendar of the key events. A huge thanks to Craig Barker of The Hoover Street Rag for most of the legwork here!
