• The Bracelet of a Buckeye Legend

We’ve all had our share of chuckles about the Ohio State gear up on eBay, especially the gold pants, but this is a bit different.   Right now a seller is offering up what he claims to be several charms that belonged to Buckeye legend and 1944 Heisman Trophy winner Les Horvath: Apparently, Horvath put the bracelet together for his wife and the seller is a personal friend.  It includes: 1942 Gold Pants charm – awarded for the victory over rival Michigan 1944 Gold Pants charm – awarded for the victory over rival Michigan 1944 Chicago Tribune Player of the year football shaped charm 1944 Football charm awarded for being named to Colliers All-America Team 1942 Big Nine Western Conference Champions football shaped charm 1944 Big NIne Western Conference Champions football shaped charm The seller is asking a cool $9,999 for the collection.  [Memo to the seller: If you are looking for ten large for anything on eBay, mix in some higher quality photos.] This deserves a good home.

  • Marketing Chief: Ads in Michigan Stadium? No Chance, Ms. Lance

At Sunday’s media day event, a few of us were huddled on the field beneath the mammoth new video screen on the north end of the field.  The inevitable topic came up—would Michigan place ads on that beast? WLBY’s Lucy Ann Lance  recently interviewed Michigan Chief Marketing Officer Hunter Lochmann and they discussed the matter: Lucy Ann: Will there ever be advertising inside Michigan stadium for a football game? Lochmann: No. I’ve learned from Dave Brandon that you ask your fans what they want.  They don’t want to see a lick of advertising in Michigan Stadium.  I think my resume would be updated if I ever allowed it in there on my own. It’s not going to happen; I think there are enough opportunities emerging in this digital world and other inventory to satisfy partners. Lucy Ann: But you have over 100,000 people in there, glued to it. You have the television coverage. Lochmann: Sure. It’s a great opportunity. Lucy Ann:  There are elementary schools which have incorporated corporate advertising in their programs.  Why not Michigan Stadium? Lochmann: You know, it’s a great opportunity and anyone who doesn’t say it is, isn’t telling the truth, but the fans don’t want it.  You listen to your fans and if that’s their number one issue then we can come up with a…

  • Treezy From Sunday Morning. On Twitter.

Roy Roundtree (TreezyUM12) can tweet, 7,188 times at the current count, but he has cooled down as of late.  I caught him inside the Glick on Sunday during Media Day and talked a little Twitter: MVictors:  I know you use Twitter and you’re on Twitter quite a bit.  Do the coaches talk to you about using Twitter? Roundtree:  Oh yeah, they always talk about Twitter.  “It’s not your friend”—that’s what they tell us, because it’s a social network and we’ve always got to watch what we say…they always emphasize that to us.” MVictors:  So they say, “You can use it, but..” Roundtree: They don’t want us to use it MVictors: They ask you not to? Roundtree:  Yeah [laughs] MVictors: But they’re not prohibiting you, and you still plan to use Twitter? Roundtree:  Yeah.  I’m not a bad guy, I like to communicate with my fans and keep them updated now and again.  But right now, since I’m in camp, I really haven’t been using it.  I’m just focused on getting ready for September 3rd. • Media/Fan Day – Photos

A few pics from Fan Day.  Overall the weather held up and it seemed like a huge crowd.  Some of the folks in line for Coach Hoke were out at 8am this morning. First the players, including some new faces:   Thomas Rawls.  Fred Jackson had great things to say about him, and expect him in action early in the season   A few games may will come down to this very young man, Kicker (and punter?) Matt Wile. .   Molk fending off Mike Rothstein Koger not Kroger received high, high praise from Coach Hoke   Denard in a future spot for FSN    Treezy told me the players are asked not to Tweet, but Roy Roundtree can’t help it   The new scoreboard HD screens are incredible At least on the north side, I saw a lot of rust in the upper rows in the stadium.  I hope they tighten this up.
