First off, here’s Larry Foote on WDFN back in July with his special message for Michigan State: “Go Blue and Michigan State, y’all always gonna suck.” Here’s the unabashed Rich Rodriguez backer and current Steeler on the radio today with Stoney and Wojo: Foote admits he like Tom Izzo and notes that they have some fine women up there in East Lansing. Hilarious moment, listen to him at the end of the interview sing the company line for the NFL.

Someone Throw a Net on Lou Holtz
Someone please. I didn’t hear it, but I found a bunch of folks searching and finding this site for “Lou Holtz Michigan comment” and investigated. As posted on Deadspin, apparently Lou Holtz linked the Rodriguez regime to….Hilter: The context of the conversation was about Rich Rodriguez’s not-so-great start as the University of Michigan’s head coach and Holtz chose this phrase as part of his analysis.: “Ya know, Hitler was a great leader too.” Sweet. The most disturbing thing here is the stupidity and ignorance of Holtz. If Holtz wanted to make a point that you need more than leadership to succeed, certainly he could have found a better parallel in the experience of another coach (perhaps one of the thousands that have been fired and then found success elsewhere). Second, how out of touch do you have to be to think that you can draw references to Hitler on ESPN and that’s somehow ok? Meanwhile, I’ve noticed that several Texas sites are on the Holtz warpath, as traffic from sites that bleed burnt orange have been peppering my audio of Jason Peter’s interview on Jim Rome, where Peter explained an alleged situation that pretty much makes Holtz a complete putz.

Ann Arbor Observer: U-M agreed to $2.5M buy-out in December
From the September issue of the Ann Arbor Observer. In the article titled ‘WVU versus Rodriguez’, author James Militzer discussed the buy-out and Rodriguez’s pursuit of a settlement. Militzer contacted West Virginia legal counsel Thomas Flaherty who claims that that Rich Rod, Bill Martin and perhaps even Mary Sue Coleman negotiated a cap on Rodriguez’s exposure to the WVU buy-out during their meeting in Toledo last December. The terms: Michigan would cover up to the $2.5 million (which of course U-M eventually ended up paying). And Flaherty claims the the school and administration have tried to hide the deal. It’s not available online so I requested and was granted permission to publish an excerpt. As an aside, I was interviewed for the article that’s how I knew it was coming out, I don’t get The Observer at home: ..Thomas Flaherty, lead counsel for WVU, says the U-M appears to have cut a deal with Rodriguez at the time he was hired. “We’ve seen an email that went from [Rodriguez’s] financial advisor, Mike Wilcox, to athletic director Martin on December fifteenth, 2007, confirming a conversation they’d had earlier that day,” he says. “I believe it was cc’ed to Mary Sue Coleman. It said that the liquidated damages clause with West Virginia was a huge issue, and that the U of M…

USC Kicker Found Dead
I saw this first on the Michigan Zone blog. Sad to hear that USC’s kicker Mario Denalo was found dead at the bottom of some cliff. He had a lot of success at USC but played pretty poorly in the Rose Bowl, incredibly missing two extra points. Here’s more.

The Wolverine Pack and 1926
Given the mood of most Michigan fans right now, it may be refreshing to take a look back at better days. Check out this graphic taken from the October 23, 1926 issue of the San Diego Sun which several members of the 1926 Wolverines.

Ford 747 Flyover of Michigan Stadium
Check out this link to the video of the 747 carrying Gerald Ford‘s body as it does fly over Michigan Stadium. Follow this link, then click on the link to the right that says “Video of Ford 747 Ann Arbor flyover”. Pretty cool. It is understood that the pilot requested a flyby from anyone who would listen in the Michigan press box, but was told by Jim Brandstatter “negative Air Force Two, the pattern is full.”. The pilot did it anyway, but rest assured that’ll be the last of these circus stunt flybys over Michigan Stadium. Go Blue!

Stubborn DeBord Wouldn’t Change a Thing
Oh this is a beauty. You won’t believe these comments from Michigan offensive coordinator Mike DeBord. I was never really sure about this guy. There is a legion of folks in Mount Pleasant that can’t stand the man and what he did for the Chips. But this quote really chapped my ass. Here’s DeBord addressing the press on how he’d attack USC’s defense knowing what he learned during the game: “I’d run the ball again. When you’re getting sacked, tell me how you’re going to keep throwing the ball and you’re going to make improvements. I don’t understand that. So no. I’d run the ball. I wouldn’t do anything different.” WHAT? What don’t you understand? You stubborn man. Carr shouldn’t have DeBord’s head for this. I’d like to chalk this up to DeBord being a smart ass, but it doesn’t sound like he was.

Media Medicine: Take It
Here’s a set of the harshest quotes from the major local writers that covered the game. Jim Carty, Ann Arbor News “No imagination, no fun meant no chance for victory” “When’s the last time Michigan let it rip?” “[Michigan has] so many players that Carr can play it safe and still end up 11-2.” “..there isn’t an offensive skill [high school] player who’d pick the Wolverines over Southern Cal or Boise State. Not one.” Shawn Windsor, Detroit Free Press
