Jamie Morris called into the Sports Inferno with Terry Foster and the underrated Mike Valenti and they posted a podcast of the interview today. Here’s a link to the full audio (10 minutes), here are some of the specific quotes from Morris: On Harbaugh: “Everybody throws stones at this school.” “These comments were geared at Bo.” “If Bo was alive today he’d of got on a plane and whooped Jimmy’s butt. Because that’s not true…what he said about Michigan.” “He said ‘it’s not about Bo.” “If you’re man enough to say those comments, you should have said it when Bo was alive.” When Morris called Harbaugh…”He wanted to focus on the 38% graduation rate.” “He used to have a contact here at the Athletic Dept., but obviously he doesn’t anymore.” On Hart.. “Mike Hart feels the same way about his school that every other man should feel about his school.” “…he felt Jim Harbaugh crossed the line.” “He wanted Jim Harbaugh to hear him.” Interesting, Morris admitted that Hart’s comments were “not classy”. Agreed. “Michigan goes as Mike Hart goes.”

To Hell with Notre Dame…in 2032
Our great departed leader Bo Schembechler felt that the Notre Dame Fighting Irish broke a gentleman's agreement with Michigan to make the M vs. ND game the first of each season. Bo was all miffed at the Domers for rebuffing overtures to join the Big Ten. He felt that Michigan, Michigan State and Purdue should each drop the ND from the schedule immediately. Summarizing his feelings on the Irish Bo told anyone who'd listen, "To Hell with Notre Dame".

Shand’s Former co-host chimes in
For those following the Dave Shand story, there’s not much going on. No major media source has mentioned the story. Recently Shand’s former co-host on WTKA 1050 Mike Wickett offered a few words on the situation here on MVictors.com. For those not closely monitoring the message board I thought I’d call it out: Sounds like a lot has happened since I’ve been gone. Dave has never been one to pull punches, especially on the air. I also know Dave understood what good radio was, and how close you sometimes needed to come to “that line”. I have no “inside info” on the situation, but I can only hope Dave and WTKA lands on its feet. Cheers from Milwaukee!! – Wickett Wickett left WTKA a few months before Shand’s firing to join former program manager Ryan Maguire in Milwaukee at station WSSP. He currently co-hosts The Doug Russell Show weekday mornings in Brew-town. Wickett and Shand hold the distinction of having the interview with Bo Schembechler just minutes before his death. Here’s all the posts related to the Dave Shand firing on MVictors.com.

BO DEAD | Ann Arbor News Gets Heat for Headline
Just a few hours after Bo Schembechler died on Friday November 17, 2006, the Ann Arbor News pulled off quite a feat: it got the story and initial reaction by its lead columnist out in time to make the afternoon delivery. One problem. The headline it chose of "BO DEAD" in huge typeface has drawn some serious heat from the community.

A Better Sports Illustrated Cover
Memo to Sports Illustrated. It just wasn’t right to put Bo Schembechler’s memorial photo in a small block behind a triumphant Buckeye on the November 27, 2006 cover: Especially after the hated Buckeyes downed Bo’s beloved Michigan in the greatest game ever played between the two rivals. Given my ties to the media, I was able to contact the print department to run off a few copies of a second version of last week’s Sports Illustrated. I like this one a little better. To add insult to injury, there seems to be a groundswell of support for a Notre Dame vs. Michigan rematch in the Rose Bowl, although most projections have the Wolverines and LSU in the Grandaddy. Bo would be turning over in his grave if Notre Dame gets a Rose Bowl berth on sacred Big Ten ground.

Highlights from Tuesday’s Celebration
A few notes and highlights from Tuesday’s Celebration of Bo Schembechler’s life: – First off, I was very impressed with how well Carr & Moeller delivered their speeches. – Carr’s speech was particularly nice. His memorial speech was laced with poems and stories about his mentor. Carr talked about how he had an offer from Lou Holtz to be the defensive coordinator several years ago. He went to tell Bo that he was seriously considering the offer and wanted to visit South Bend. Bo said ‘No, you’re not going to Notre Dame. You’re Michigan.” – On the topic of the Irish, Carr added “”Bo did not have a particular fondness for Notre Dame. I can promise you this, the first time Bo Schembechler will ever cheer for Notre Dame will be this Saturday.” This of course in reference to the need for the Irish to beat Southern Cal which will likely bump USC from the current BCS standings. – Carr threw in a diddy about how Bo always said that President Clinton was Carr’s President, not his. Coach Carr said he walked down the hall with the invitation to visit the White House after the 1997 National Championship and told Bo he had to join them. Bo said, “I’m not goin’! And you shouldn’t go either!”

Bo’s Final Interview; Celebration Today
This morning on WTKA 1050 they replayed the final interview with Bo, as he was on his way to the television studio where he soon after collapsed and died. As I mentioned in my original post, I heard the interview live and really did think that Bo sounded a little rough. Here are some memorable quotes (I think I captured these correctly) from Bo in his last interview: Regarding his coaching style: “There are laid back coaches that are successful. I’m just not one of them.” On concerns over the Ohio Stadium playing surface: “..if that field is as bas as everybody says it is, that presents a problem.” [he was right!] On the Michigan game plan: “We will have to throw the football more than we have.” [Correct again] The gates of Michigan stadium open at 11am today to celebrate the life of coaching legend Bo Schembechler. Speakers include university president Mary Sue Coleman, AD Bill Martin, Coaches Carr and Moeller, and some former players including Dan Dierdorf. The ceremony starts at 1pm. Here’s more information from mgoblue.com, including information on a free video feed provided by the University for those who don’t live in the Detroit area. In case you are wondering, the punk rock band ‘The Dead Schembechlers’ will not be playing, in fact they will either…
