• Biggie Munn's stuff

I'm not sure what I'd do if someone started selling the personal effects of legendary Michigan coaches Fielding Yost or Fritz Crisler. Perhaps my head would explode. I stumbled upon someone selling a few items that were previously owned by arguably the greatest Michigan State football coach of all-time: Biggie Munn.

  • 1930 Michigan Football Jersey

In February 2008, an item claimed by its seller to be an actual 1930 Wolverine jersey came up for bid on eBay. The description said that the jersey was previously owned by Francis Cornwell, the right guard on coach Harry Kipke’s squad (see lead photo).

  • Ultimate Michigan Football Highlight? You Decide

You like me have likely been suffering through ESPN’s tournament for the greatest sports highlight of all time (which inexplicably contains an entry with no actual footage and may have never actually happened: Babe Ruth’s called shot). I typically hate these things unless there’s some Michigan-related element to it (see Legg’s goal winning the ESPY). To make a bit interesting I rolled my head through the greatest highlights in Michigan football in the past 40 years or so. Several came to mind and I’m certainly missing some of your favorites. My favorite? See the pic that leads this story. I was in the upper deck in Spartan Stadium on the same side of the field and saw the whole thing. My head almost exploded when I realized what I had just watched. Here’s a poll and get your takes and feel free to add your own entry: {democracy} Here’s what I could find on the YouTube. Thankfully I witnessed each of these in person except for the great Wangler to Carter game winner and of course the Harmon ditty:

  • Amani Toomer’s Table for One

I’ve heard Amani Toomer speak in the media and always considered him a good M man and certainly never heard of any rift between he and the program. That changed today. Check out this interview the Detroit Free Press did with former Michigan receiver. Here’s the section that threw me back a bit: Did you hear from any of your former U-M teammates or Lloyd Carr after the win? No. The last time I heard a word from Lloyd was when I was playing in a (Michigan) game; it was my last play of my senior year. I caught a touchdown from Brian Griese, and I was walking off the field and Lloyd looks at me, looks at Griese, looks at me again, and goes, “Good throw, Brian.” And that’s the last thing he ever said in my direction. Did you have a good relationship with Carr while at U-M? I thought we did, but I guess we didn’t. So I don’t know. I wasn’t too upset to see the whole regime change. So I read the answer to the first question above and I’m thinking, well that’s odd. That’s definitely not what you hear from most players. Then you read the next part about how he “thought” he and Carr had a good relationship but wasn’t too upset to…

  • Larry Foote on WDFN (2 audio clips)

Former M linebacker Larry Foote sat in on WDFN 1130AM’s Stoney and Wojo show yesterday. You can listen to the all nine segments here. I’ve got the last two segments below where Foote talks about Michigan football including some smack talk directed toward East Lansing and takes on Terrelle Pryor: [display_podcast] Elsewhere. A Maize Rager made SI.com’s Student Photo of the Day:

  • Beat State! Twice

A huge one tonight in Ann Arbor then again Saturday at Munn as your #1 Wolverines take on the defending NCAA champs. Going to the game? Send along some photos and on your deathbed you will receive total consciousness. As for me, enough is enough and I’ll be hitting Yost next Friday for the Northern Michigan game with bells on. (Pregame sodas at Fraser’s. Post-game plan is cheesesteaks at Spots pending the results of the 50/50 raffle.)

  • Mark Harmon Faces Michigan, MSU

With the rumors that have Ryan Mallett and quarterbacks coach Scott Loeffler heading to UCLA, it’s a good time to look at the next item in the eBay watch series. Many of you know that Michigan legend Tom Harmon is the father of actor Mark Harmon and that the younger Harmon played quarterback at UCLA. What you may not know is that Mark’s Bruins actually faced his old man’s team in the early seventies and they both returned to Michigan the following year to battle the Spartans. Here are the programs for each game that were recently auctioned on eBay: There were a couple of storylines leading into the Wolverines trip to Los Angeles in 1972. The week prior UCLA started their brutal schedule with a huge win over #1 Nebraska, snapping the Huskers’ 32-game winning streak. It was Harmon’s first game for the Bruins, and a wishbone offense was installed to suit the new quarterback. Mark was named the MVP of the game and finished with 71 rushing yards. A headline in Sports Illustrated that week declared, “YOUNG HARMON MAKES HIS MARK: From Out of Hollywood Comes the Saga of Mark Harmon, Handsome, Articulate, the Son of Old No. 98”. Geez SI, take a cold shower. The other storyline for the game was of course the son playing his legendary…

  • Dantonio and Izzo: Beauties

Put aside all the garbage flying around in the aftermath of the MSU/Michigan game. You’ve got to like a few things coming out of the from the Spartan coaches: First, on Dantanio. Check out this beauty he slipped into his Monday presser. He gives his take on my question of whether real fans sell their tickets to the big games: “It’s inbred in me,” Dantonio said. “It exists in me and everybody who’s a true Spartan, not the ones who give their donor seats to Michigan Wolverines. Next Izzo, who is just about everything you want in a hoops coach. Check out what he did to his players to punish them for the Grand Valley State loss: After the loss, Izzo decided to temporarily kick the players out of their brand-new locker room. Members of the media got to see the Spartans’ new digs after the game and they look better than some NBA locker rooms, complete with comfortable couches, a high-tech television with a video-game system and a kitchen area. “I just look at that as, you earn the right to have something that nice, and we didn’t earn the right,” Izzo said. “I just said that, make sure that everything including the toothbrushes are out of there.” Over the last few days, players have dressed in the weight…
