Tuesdays & Thursdays, 11AM-12:50PM
Whitney Auditorium, Room 1315, School of Education Building

Fall Term 2023

For many, examples of great leadership usually include highly regarded athletic coaches. But, why? What do they do differently from leaders in other fields and what tools do they possess in order to lead effectively?

In this course, we will explore concepts such as coaching through adversity & change, employing servant leadership, and developing goals & objectives.  We will examine coaching and leadership across industries and platforms such as sports, business, and healthcare.   A host of expert speakers, including successful coaches and business executives, will share personal philosophies and experiences. Past speakers have included John Beilein, Phil Martelli, Carol Hutchins, Rishi Narayan, Jim Hackett, Jack Harbaugh, Ben Herbert, Jen Klein, and other coaches/CEOs/leaders.

Students will learn the keys to being an effective leader and coach through lectures, a series of readings, and group exercises. By the end of the course, students will be able to develop their own coaching and leadership philosophies through theories, policies, and practices.
