Steve ‘Dr Sap’ Saparadanis delivers his coveted decals for Michigan’s home finale, the 31-20 victory over the Hoosiers.
I was in the bubble all day on Saturday. As I watched the DVR Replay of the game, I was getting real antsy with it still being a one possession contest in the second half. But then something happened.
IU decided to mess with the hair (Chase Winovich) and poke the bear.
The Michigan team seemed to wake up after this and responded with championship body shots in all three phases of the game. The lesson in all of this? Don’t mess with the hair, and don’t poke the bear!
Here are your IU Champions:
OFFENSIVE CHAMPION – The more I kept watching this game, the more I was impressed with the interior line play of Caesar Ruiz and Michael Onwenu. Those two were pushing Indiana defenders around all game and getting to the outside on perimeter running plays like I’ve never seen a Michigan center and guard do in my 40-plus years of watching Michigan football.
The coaching staff must have seen the same thing as they ended up icing the game by running the ball on every play in their last two drives – fifteen consecutive running plays! When you can do that, you have one heck of an interior line paving the way (to a championship)!
DEFENSIVE CHAMPION – After Winovich went out of the game with that cheap shot, the Michigan defense picked up their intensity led by Devin Bush II.
He continues to be the heart & soul of Don Brown’s Dudes and he continues to energize his teammates as well. The D could have folded or made excuses, but instead they did the opposite & ratcheted up their play. That was great to see!
SPECIAL TEAMS CHAMPIONS – How many times have we seen an opponent’s kicker play the game of his life or make the kick of his life against Michigan? Well, on Saturday, the shoe was on the other foot as freshman Jake Moody went 6 for 6 on field goals.
Incredible! Impressive! And much needed as Michigan gets set to play the Buckeyes in Columbus next week.
UNIFORM CHAMPION (NOT!) – How many times do I have to say this?? DO NOT PLACE HELMET STICKERS BETWEEN THE STRIPES!!
DPJ was the guilty party on Saturday.
