• Get to the Chopper!

Outstanding. The guys at Orange County Choppers, made famous by the reality show American Chopper, built an epic custom ride to be auctioned to benefit Mott’s Children’s Hospital.  What a beauty. Apparently the youngest member of the core Chopper crew (Mikey) is a big Wolverine fan and after a few calls they worked it out. Here’s more info on how you can get this baby[auction will be February 7-12] and here’s all the photos. Apparently they’ve got a show dedicated to designing and building the “Big Blue Bike” and it’s airing soon. The Ann Arbor News ran a story on this today as well, check it out here. Check your local listings. Awesome stuff. For bike dudes, here’s the key features: * Revtec 100″ engine * Baker 6-speed transmission * Custom OCC/Michigan wheels; chrome with epoxy inlay * Custom OCC/Michigan air cleaner cover and primary cover * OCC Down Sweep Exhaust with custom Michigan exhaust covers” Not mentioned but additions I’d suggest: * Ape Hangers (Apes) * Bitch bar * Winged Brain Bucket Ehh, sounds just about right. But is it really loud when you fire it up? Would have been nice to ride that thing out of East Lansing yesterday (at half-time). Or maybe Rich Rod could pony up for this and pass it along as a gift to…

  • Huge Show interview with Chad Henne (audio)

Henne’s my new Navarre (heart thumping). Here’s a little over 11 minutes with the former QB on Bill Simonson’s “Huge Show”, as aired locally on Ann Arbor’s WTKA. [display_podcast] Henne talks about the season that was, the Florida win, how his shoulder felt when injured, briefly on what he’s heard from the players on Rich Rodriguez (“it’s different”), on what he’s working on to impress the NFL scouts (throwing on the run), and more.

  • Little Sisters

I was one of the 13 Michigan fans that made it to East Lansing to watch the Wolverines get smoked. A few observations from the game: On the play: – Not much to say here. These guys just don’t look comfortable out there and have trouble getting squared up for shots. It’s painful to watch a team that relies so heavily on the three with guys that don’t look comfortable shooting. – M rebounded ok (I need to see the final numbers) but many from the offensive side were the result of badly clanked triples. – Free throw shooting was terrible. – State obviously didn’t need to play their best to beat these guys. Guards Nietzel and Lucas were far and away the difference. Take away those guys and State looked average. Sights & Sounds: – I wouldn’t say tickets to this game were hot, but it took me about 15 minutes to find a reasonably priced seat. One guy was trying to sell at single ticket behind Izzo’s bench for $150. – I seriously think there were about 100 Michigan fans there. I didn’t see a group of students anywhere. No cheerleaders although there’s nowhere really for them to stand. – You probably know that the Izzone consumes three quarters of the lowest bowl. One thing I hadn’t noticed…

  • ESPN Henne Coverage Wrap

A collection of a outtakes from ESPN.com as they monitored Chad Henne at the Senior Bowl workouts this past week. Overall, looks like the former M QB did himself some favors and based on this week is looking at a possible second round pick. And who does he compare himself to? Tom Brady. Good answer. If you answer Tom Brady to just about any question your going to do ok. First, from ESPN. Full story available here for ESPN Insiders only. For non-subscribers, here’s the summary and final grade: One of Henne’s main goals heading into this week was to prove he has adequate pocket presence to make up for his lack of mobility. Henne did a fairly good job of stating his case. He was adequate in moving his feet, avoiding the initial rush and finding throwing lanes. Although he does not display good initial quickness or elusiveness running out of the pocket, Henne was able to make accurate throws on the move during only a few opportunities. Henne was also able to put a stamp on his overall passing efficiency. Displaying a strong arm and quick release, Henne showed the ability to make all the necessary throws at the next level. In addition to arm strength, he was accurate and made sound overall decisions throughout week. Henne’s natural…

  • Beat State! Twice

A huge one tonight in Ann Arbor then again Saturday at Munn as your #1 Wolverines take on the defending NCAA champs. Going to the game? Send along some photos and on your deathbed you will receive total consciousness. As for me, enough is enough and I’ll be hitting Yost next Friday for the Northern Michigan game with bells on. (Pregame sodas at Fraser’s. Post-game plan is cheesesteaks at Spots pending the results of the 50/50 raffle.)

  • 1948 Rose Bowl and the National Championship debate

How about the 1948 Rose Bowl in Pasadena against USC? The 49-0 win capped off a national championship season where the Wolverines went 10-0 and outscored their opponents 394-53. You may have seen some clips of this version of Fritz Crisler's "Mad Magicians" featuring Bob Chappuis and Bump Elliott on Michigan Football Memories show from PBS. The combination of line shifts and ball movement is jaw-dropping:
