In summary, the announcement that Jim Harbaugh is staying left the majority of the Michigan fanbase relieved. But even the most open-minded supporters feel a level of damage control, or at least reassurances, around his commitment to U-M need to be made by Harbaugh, certainly inside Schembechler Hall. Throwing out those who are outright thrilled, and those totally outraged, most fans had The Mood in the lower 90s or 80s following this latest postseason drama.
This is a good reminder that the Mood is not solely about football wins and losses. That’s not what fandom, and certainly not Michigan fandom, is all about. There are external factors in play that affect your overall feeling around the football program, including but not limited to current events in Ann Arbor. Top of mind: the President Schlissel mess, the state of the basketball program (I was at the Nebraska game), various active athletic-department scandals, and more. These things impact your pride in U-M in general and certainly can weigh on your active feelings about the football program, even during a snowstorm in early February.
While I don’t do Mood updates outside of the football season barring major stuff like this, I felt it important to share this perspective. And again, as I acknowledge in the disclaimer on The Mood page: Yes, I’m aware this whole exercise is a bit silly…but taking trivial things very seriously is what I do!
Current Mood: 90 [down 6 from 96]
As always, Follow @MVictors on Twitter if you wish to chime in on the Index during the football season or if Harbaugh gets squirrely again. A huge thanks to all the input and interaction in 2021!

The historical Mood chart is setting up a nice double bottom. I see some consolation happening around 90 then poising to break out…..but which direction.
