Only thing better would be if they also confirmed Red was going to skate in the Red Wings/Maple Leafs alumni game for the 2013 NHL Winter Classic. Via Media Relations: Red Berenson Agrees to Contract Extension Through 2015-16 Season ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The University of Michigan and ice hockey head coach Red Berenson have agreed to a three-year contract extension, Athletic Director Dave Brandon announced on Monday (July 16). Berenson is in the final season of his current contract and the extension will keep him at Michigan through the 2015-16 campaign. "I’m pleased that the administration and the program are looking ahead," said Berenson. "I’m excited about the opportunity to remain at Michigan, especially with the current Yost renovations, the move to the Big Ten and for our incoming recruits. We have a great staff here and I’m looking forward to the next few years at Michigan." Berenson has led the Michigan ice hockey program since 1984, winning two national titles (1996, 1998) along the way. He has guided the Wolverines to a record 22 consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances and has reached the Frozen Four on 11 occasions. No Freeze Out
A big thanks to Marty Bodnar and the M ticket office for hearing my plea & for doing the right thing—> taking care of the hockey season ticket holders as part of The Big Chill game at the Big House next year. Light blue’s for you: Looks like they’ve reserved quite a few ducats for former players and if this thing is to scale, apparently they’re expecting every living dude who has strapped on the skates for the Maize and Blue to show. Speaking of tickets, plenty available for this weekend’s first round battle in the CCHA tournament and it’s do or die. What are you waiting for? Grip your tickets, get over to Yost. Students are gone so make sure you’re there.

Corey Tropp was also kicked off the MSU team but earned his way back onto Rick Comley’s squad, and will return to Yost tonight. Wolverine Steve Kampfer is of course still skating for coach Berenson. Should be an interesting night tonight. Here’s a look back, first at Red’s comments from January on the weekly coaches’ show at The Arena just after the incident: [display_podcast] And here are those stills that I took from Section 22: Conboy and Tropp zero in on Kampfer Conboy gives Kampfer the old clothesline from behind …and takes Kampfer down. Tropp cocks his stick, but actually pulls back a bit Then Tropp gets a look… …and then takes a swing.. …and connects. Michigan immediately dispatches the team doctor To Conboy’s credit, he appears to shove Corey Tropp with his right arm… ..and then pushes him away with his left
