• M Spring Game 2008: Video Clips

A few video clips from around the Saline High School field, showing a little bit of the start, a few mistakes and a couple nice plays. Definitely check out the last clip of Avery Horn’s run, coming right at me: That’s Barwis patrolling the end zone as players stretch. He’s as advertised. Sorry about the audio (with the wind) and the quality – that’s about as best I could get out of YouTube. And while not of the same quality, here’s the Big Ten Network’s coverage of the game:

  • M Spring Game 2008: Rich Rodriguez press conference (audio)

MVictors Spring Game Coverage Wall to wall coverage coming later tonight. A few notes: * Threet came out first on offense and would look to be the front runner for the starting position. That said, per Rodriguez any talk of first team/second team is ridiculous at this point. * Overall the offense made many mistakes (not a surprise). All QBs struggled at times (Sheridan, Threet, Cone) and there were a boat load of interceptions. * While the offense struggled, the defense made some big plays and huge hits, causing the crowd to gasp on a few occasions. I’ll have lots of photos, video and audio later. You can listen to the full Rich Rodriguez press conference here: Related: Full Spring Game 2008 coverage

  • Spring Game Closing Comments

Rodriguez addressing the players after the game File this under Miscellanea, a few final bullets, photos and takes from the Spring Game: The punting was so brutal Rodriguez didn’t even have to be asked directly about it in the postgame news conference.  He called it “concerning”.  Yep.  Let’s hope incoming freshman punter Will Hagerup lives safe and clean until August. Speaking of the presser, you can here the whole thing here.  If you’re wondering, it was radio voice Frank Beckmann who asked the Pat White question which has got to be getting old for RR: [display_podcast] A few folks asked for a high res copy of the Denard making everyone blurry photo (above), here you go. I spoke to senior Greg Banks who won the great Meyer Morton award, presented to the player showing the most development and promise during spring ball.   The history of this honor dates back to 1925 and as discussed here more than once, it was originally intended for underclassmen but don’t blame Rich Rod for changing this.   Bo started to give the award to seniors and juniors, and for the past several years it’s been given exclusively to seniors.   The official press release even calls it an award for “the senior football player…”   Past winners include Braylon, Henne, Breaston, Jimmy Harbaugh and digging way back,…

  • Spring Game Wrap-up, Takes, Photos

Forcier and Vincent Smith celebrate after a score A beautiful day out there today as the masses came out to check out the Wolverines, back in Michigan stadium this year after holding a closed scrimmage in Saline in 2008.  A few of the posts I put up during the day: Crowd Details, Biggest Ever? Stevie Brown, 2009 Meyer Morton Award winner Blue 32, Maize 24: M Alumni Game (Photos) Alumni Game: Leach grunts, Line moves to Blue -1 Spring Game: Locker Room Tour (Photos) Interview: Nick Sheridan While there was no stand-out player at last year’s game, there’s no question that today it was freshman Tate Forcier.   He showed some of the things you heard about in practice: sharp passes, moving well in the pocket, throwing well on the run, and showed that he can carry that ball.   I don’t have all stats but I believe he ran for at least 2 touchdowns, including a beautiful jump and stretch to get the ball over the line in an overtime simulation.  Vincent Smith mixed in some nice runs as well. The defense gained a little momentum in the middle of the full-field scrimmage, but still showed some of the poor tackling that we’ve seen over the last few years.  Will Campbell noted that a focus for the defense will be wrapping…
