• Love for Coach Rod, Shaq

Coach Rod is receiving rave reviews with the fans and media for his bluntness and candidness. And he’s not stopping with the fans and the media. Remember the group of former alumni that met the team prior to the Notre Dame and Ohio State games, and all those that petitioned Bill Martin to consider Les Miles? Well, Rodriguez is working on something for them, from John Heuser in the Ann Arbor News Sunday: Wolverine reunion In an effort to introduce himself and his staff to former Michigan players, Rodriguez plans to host an event in Ann Arbor in February. “I want to meet all the guys that played here. I didn’t play here, so I didn’t know a lot of them. But I know how much pride they have in this place, and I want to meet ’em and talk to ’em, and I want to make sure all the former players feel welcome coming back here, and I think they will once they meet all the former players and staff members.” According to MVictors reader TC, the hockey game appearance went over big-time with the students. Apparently he didn’t just show up for an interview and to slap the puck across the ice. Here’s TC’s recap and take: Not only did he do a ceremonial puck drop he also…

  • Deja Vu? Pretty Much, LSU rolls over Bucks

A few takes from the game, most as it happened: First half takes: Boy, the Buckeyes came out strong again in this version of the BCS Championship. They sustained the momentum for more than one play but wow….Les Miles and the Tigers have taken complete control. Wondering how Tressel will respond in the second half as against Florida he definitely panicked. Not looking good for the Bucks. The FOX coverage is a complete bust except for the pregame thing Shaq did for LSU. Oh my god that was hilarious. YES I DIG IT! Second half takes: Two huge personal fouls by the Bucks lead to an LSU score but the Buckeyes respond with a pick and nice touchdown on fourth down. There’s some life. The net: All in all, pretty much went like last year’s game with this time LSU running off 31 straight at one point. Actually felt bad for the OSU fans there. I’ve been to games like that. You know many of the same folks in New Orleans were in Phoenix.

  • Terrelle Pryor Wears Michigan gear?

NBC just noted that recruit QB Terrelle Pryor donned a Michigan sweatshirt before the U.S. All American Bowl, although the network noted it was in an effort to get the goat of the Ohio State recruits. Oh and yes, he’s pretty good…as in unstoppable. McGuffie is out there as well and despite showing some flashes of speed, his size makes him look a tad out of his league. I probably would have said the same about Mike Hart (or Jamie Morris) in high school so whatever. And of course, I don’t think Hart could do this!

  • The Foundation is Deep

Hundreds of former Michigan football letterman took the field prior to the Michigan-Ohio State game a few weeks ago, Among those men were a few names you know: Rick Leach, Jon Jansen, Brian Griese. The majority of the mass that formed the lane from the tunnel to the sideline was made up of folks that you may not know. These men form a rock solid foundation of former Michigan letter-winners that will not fade, even during lower points in Michigan history such as the 2007 season and this whole coaching search mess. These guys all have stories to tell but you won’t hear them on WTKA before the games or read books about their experiences in Michigan stadium. One of those letter winners on that field was Dr. Barry Dehlin who earned three letters under Bump Elliott in the 1960s. I found him on the sideline prior to the game chatting it up with old teammates (he’s third from the left in the photo above in the maize M hat). He practices medicine today in mid-Michigan. For every Rick Leach there were dozens of Dehlins on that sideline. While most of these former players don’t have space dedicated to them inside Schembechler Hall, you can bet they penned many of the letters to Bill Martin voicing their concern on the…

  • Michigan-Ohio State pregame fight (2007)

I happened to be standing at mid-field for the pregame taking it all in when the Buckeyes and Wolverines had the shoving match at midfield. I snapped a couple photos and this one came out pretty nice. Check out all the people on the sideline scrambling to take a pic with the cell phones. Click here to see the FULL size version (2048 x 1536). Another great sight was all the former Michigan letter winners forming the walls of the team’s entrance onto the field before taking on Ohio State. Here’s a view from my seat:

  • Ann Arbor shows well on GameDay

Since I was busy with my own version of pregame festivities on the golf course I missed the events around ESPN’s visit to campus. Based upon the initial reviews it looks like the fans showed well and came up with some clever signs. That’s kind of what the mob of fans behind Corso, Fowler and Herbstreit is measured on these days. Football Jesus broke down the signs of the day and provided a Top 25 ranking. He liked the ‘We need a Carr with Les Miles’ which I’ve seen before but doesn’t really make a lot of sense. There’s a joke there somewhere but that’s not it. His favorite is pretty funny but a tad PG-13, you can check it out here. Of his Top 25 here are my favorites: 3. Only Buckeyes work at Home Depot 4. Charlie Weis ate Notre dame’s season. 6. Herbie sings “the Victors” in the shower 8. Stop talking about Barry Bonds 12. If you can read this you are not a Buckeye 20. Tressel watches “the View” 24. Desmond walks on H2o
