  • Man Cave Alert

A repost, the seller informs me he still has some in stock. A must have for any man cave, Michigan shrine, office, garage and/or living room (if you aren’t married).   It’s a bunch of pre-locker room renovation lockers removed from Schembechler Hall.  Check it out:   Details: Full size locker, WITH COMBINATION!!  We have proof of authenticity, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity for the ultimate Michigan Football memorabilia collector. It could be a very long time before they change lockers again.  Locker numbers still on them. Dimensions:  36" wide x 24" deep x 74-3/4" tall Weight: About 200 lbs – costs about $250 to ship or free pick-up in Detroit It seems a local demolition company cleaned out the locker room and was granted rights to take away the lockers.  Get this—they actually crushed one of them before someone came to their senses.  The company is based in Detroit and they’ve got a few left to sell. How much?  The seller told me asking around $800 and willing to talk if you want more than one.   They’ll even deliver in the Detroit area. Interested to buying one of these to round out your shrine or for a gift?  Here are a couple higher resolution photos: For more info or to buy one if they’re still available, send…

  • Shaggy Two Times

Memories! Ahhh yes, Appalachian State returns to the Big House in 2014 and I’m good with that.   I am.    And I’ll keep my eyes peeled for Shaggy (who apparently predicted both the margin of victory in 2007 and the fact that we’d play twice): See you in 2014.

  • Mail! To MVictors (Valiant)

I get a lot of great emails from readers and as you can imagine, they are usually related to history or some piece of memorabilia.   Enough over the past week to prompt a post: Vintage Henne? First up, a question on an item from reader Rachel: …I picked up a football practice jersey at the garage sale on Saturday. It was different from most of the other jerseys there, and I’m curious if it’s older than most of what was available. It is what i think of as ‘old school maize’ – that deeper goldenrod.  I know that you just covered the whole ‘has maize really changed’ debate, but this definitely isn’t the lighter color of the last few years. It also is not Nike or Adidas – the brand is Tri County Sports, which I did Google to find out it’s a local sports equipment manufacturer. It’s a looser fit, very different than the current ones that stretch over pads. There is elastic at the waist and end of the sleeves. My question is if you know (or you know someone who does) when Michigan got practice jerseys from that company rather than part of their deal with Adidas or Nike. I looked at Ebay and didn’t see anything similar. In the interest of full disclosure, it’s #7 with…

  • A Foundation of Puntness

During the 15 minute glimpse of warm-ups practice today, we learned one thing:  Brady Hoke is minding the details.   For most of the session open to the media, Hoke sat with the punters and watched… …and even demonstrated punting: I like this.  I want a coach who is showing the punters how to punt.  This reminds of one my favorite photos of Fielding Yost (something I don’t think I’ve mentioned here before).   Per the Bentley Historical Library photo gallery of the Old Man, here’s Yost “Fielding Yost demonstrates proper way to catch a punt”:  Follow MVictors on Twitter or MVictors Facebook Page

  • Michigan Pigskin and Politics (1976)

Michigan football and presidential have politics mixed a few times over the years, especially when 1934 team MVP Gerard Ford was making a run at retaining his seat in the Oval Office in 1976.  Here’s a wire photo featuring legendary Michigan radio voice Bob Ufer and the 38th POTUS inside Crisler Arena (see above).

  • The Bracelet of a Buckeye Legend

We’ve all had our share of chuckles about the Ohio State gear up on eBay, especially the gold pants, but this is a bit different.   Right now a seller is offering up what he claims to be several charms that belonged to Buckeye legend and 1944 Heisman Trophy winner Les Horvath: Apparently, Horvath put the bracelet together for his wife and the seller is a personal friend.  It includes: 1942 Gold Pants charm – awarded for the victory over rival Michigan 1944 Gold Pants charm – awarded for the victory over rival Michigan 1944 Chicago Tribune Player of the year football shaped charm 1944 Football charm awarded for being named to Colliers All-America Team 1942 Big Nine Western Conference Champions football shaped charm 1944 Big NIne Western Conference Champions football shaped charm The seller is asking a cool $9,999 for the collection.  [Memo to the seller: If you are looking for ten large for anything on eBay, mix in some higher quality photos.] This deserves a good home.

  • Marketing Chief: Ads in Michigan Stadium? No Chance, Ms. Lance

At Sunday’s media day event, a few of us were huddled on the field beneath the mammoth new video screen on the north end of the field.  The inevitable topic came up—would Michigan place ads on that beast? WLBY’s Lucy Ann Lance  recently interviewed Michigan Chief Marketing Officer Hunter Lochmann and they discussed the matter: Lucy Ann: Will there ever be advertising inside Michigan stadium for a football game? Lochmann: No. I’ve learned from Dave Brandon that you ask your fans what they want.  They don’t want to see a lick of advertising in Michigan Stadium.  I think my resume would be updated if I ever allowed it in there on my own. It’s not going to happen; I think there are enough opportunities emerging in this digital world and other inventory to satisfy partners. Lucy Ann: But you have over 100,000 people in there, glued to it. You have the television coverage. Lochmann: Sure. It’s a great opportunity. Lucy Ann:  There are elementary schools which have incorporated corporate advertising in their programs.  Why not Michigan Stadium? Lochmann: You know, it’s a great opportunity and anyone who doesn’t say it is, isn’t telling the truth, but the fans don’t want it.  You listen to your fans and if that’s their number one issue then we can come up with a…
