• Sights & Sounds | Family Reunion (Michigan 47, Western Michigan 14)

As JJ McCarthy's pass sailed diagonally across the field, a truck pulled up to the gates of Michigan Stadium. Its cargo was approximately 110,000 cans of that sweet nectar of hype, hope, and expectation. Of course, you usually received your annual dose around the first week of August each year, but you know, COVID and all. To the Sights and Sounds from Saturday. This is my gameday peek into events off the field on Saturdays, aka whatever you call the opposite of Xs and Os:

  • Sights & Sounds: Terrapin Cushions (Michigan 28, Maryland —)

Via the #1000SSS game notes: “The U-M defense forced 12 three-and-outs, holding the Maryland offense to 1-of-18 on third-down opportunities.”  Yikes.  For the second straight week the opponent didn’t even get close to scoring.  I haven’t felt bad for an opponent in a long time but I was seriously concerned about the welfare (well before he was body slammed) of that Terrapin back-up QB.  The dude should have hid his helmet. Bullets: We’re fortunate to have many options at back, but clearly De’Veon Smith was missed.  Here’s to hoping he’s ready for Northwestern. Brandy and Dierdorf went on and on about this on the radio call (I #mutedMillen) but the physical recovery of Drake Johnson after the ACL is remarkable.   I love how that dude runs with the pigskin.   Check out this shot (HT: G. Loose), DJ gets up at least 6’ on his repaired knee: You can’t do it, but seriously, I’d love to see the analysis on whether Michigan should have elected to kickoff to start the second half. Mathlete? I loved the performance of Desmond Morgan – if nothing else for how many times the guy had his hand on the football.  Via the Michigan Daily: From the shelves of Ann Arbor Armchair & Nitpick: I don’t get going for two up 12-0 with eight minutes left…

  • Sights & Sounds | Michigan State 35, Michigan 11 (2014)

Recently stock market talking heads like CNBC’s Jim Cramer have expended a lot of calories talking about finding the “bottom”, meaning the point where the collective nastiness out there (Ebola, ISIS, etc.) has punished stock prices and it’s safe for investors to jump back in.   Said another way, it’s the point where things stop getting worse and start getting better.  He even made a list: If you felt great when we (yes I said we) scored a touchdown against Michigan State, congrats, you’ve reached a personal bottom.  For this football program, I’d like to think that Saturday was the bottom but I don’t think we’re there yet.  There’s a list but I can’t bear to write it down.  A few suggestions for you: 1. Season over 2. New coach named  3. Signing day  4. Rival fans stop feeling sorry for you.  5… Arena:  A couple of notes for you: * Spear-gate – Who gives a crap?* #ChadTough – This was nice – well done MMB and MSUMB: Mood Update:  The Mood Index, the metric trying to gauge how great it is to be a Michigan Wolverine.  It’s not: Uniform Update:  Nothing timeline worthy, but you have a couple of guys (at least early on) wearing the white Team 135 undershirts with the State of Michigan logo (with block M on…

  • Domed – Sights & Sounds | (Notre Dame 31, Michigan 0 – 2014)

Synopsis: They might be chicken but we’re the jive turkeys.   No, the season is not lost but what happened last night was worse than anything that has happened in recent years – seriously – including last year’s beat down in East Lansing.   Oh yes, it got ugly (ironically, mostly Chicken Little sky is falling) on WTKA on Sunday morning.  A reminder to callers, please recite your fandom credentials BEFORE your rant, please.  Oh, and the Twitterverse was less than kind to the current #1000SSS regime.   Hope is not a strategy but..that’s my strategy.  And bourbon. Peacock Trolls:  Nice to know NBC Sports is reading this site…did you see that photo and a brief mention of Yost’s dog?    I wonder where they got that?   Hey peacocks – how about a mention or a hat tip?  Just Cover – Jokes aside about the offensive production, memo to Coach Nuss—maybe slap a cover on the play card?   I don’t know if there’s anything on there we don’t want the opponents to see but you can do a lot in HD these days: Mood Update:  The Mood Index.  Break-in reported at Ann Arbor Torch & Pitchfork around 2am EDT Sunday morning.  Investigation pending. Uniform Update:  White socks – the best thing out there Saturday?  Also, note the away (white) Team 135 undershirts: And…
