Vanquished! Thoroughly. (Michigan 42, Ohio State 27) | Sights & Sounds

What happened Saturday was the fulfillment of the promise of Harbaugh. The antidote for the seemingly unbeatable, unstoppable Buckeyes. For all the times people tried to channel Bo and the 1969 (24-12) game during the past dozen years, it actually happened in 2021 – when no one really talked about it or prophesized it. Saturday’s result and the feeling of the fanbase after this one will live on for decades to come. Wow, that just happened.

To the Sights & Sounds from this historic day:

Tunnel and Banner. A clip that you delete if we lose, but it becomes meaningful when we win. Especially when we come out and dominate like that. Here’s the last time this historic team took the field at Michigan Stadium:

Expected It. In contrast to the grown men openly bawling in the stands, these gents don’t look at all surprised at this outcome:

Brandy & Dierdorf. As WTKA’s Steve Clarke observed, most of us really don’t remember a time when Jim Brandstatter wasn’t a part of the coverage of this football program. He overlapped Bob Ufer himself with his work on Michigan Replay, and over the years shifted to play-by-play from color when his buddy and former teammate Dan Dierdorf joined him in 2014.

These guys love this football program and they ached for Harbaugh to get this team back to its proper place. You’ve got to be happy for them that it came together–with a dominating old school ground and pound–in their last home call together. (Catch their audio over the game video here.)

All-phases. This is how you win pregame, well done to the ladies of “The Michigan Drinking Team”:

Critical Data. This was great:

Howl! As I shared on Twitter, a little insight from the press box. When Ohio State turned the ball over to seal the game, you heard a huge ROAR and wild shouts from the Michigan assistant’s box a few rooms over from where the press sit. Everyone snapped their heads. Then you could hear the ruckus (and a few words) as they emptied out, with Coach Bellamy leading the charge, as they sprinted down the hall to catch the elevator downstairs and a ride back to the locker room.

Paging” Ted Lasso. Props to Ira Weintraub for peppering the WTKA Victors Lounge with BELIEVE signs. It worked. From left to right that’s John U. Bacon, Steve Clarke, Ira, and Sam Webb during their very spirited Countdown To Kickoff:

Oh, and here’s the Saturday edition of This Week in Michigan Football History as played on the pregame show if you need it (no gold pants for you, Bucks!):

Break Down, 1991. ICYMI, this very cool mini-segment during pregame with Desmond and Kirk Herbstreit:

Props to this guy for making the sign ESPN used for that pic of Herbstreit!

If You Don’t Know, Now You Know. Oh boy, for those waiting for confirmation that THIS YEAR IS DIFFERENT – wow. Unconfirmed if a few Buckeyes just straight up kept walking straight to the bus.

Woodson Honored. It was good karma to have both living Heisman Trophy winners on-prem, as Charles was recognized for his NFL HOF induction. This is how you represent!

ESPN GameDay, also. For posterity, from the field (in the southeast corner):

And from Pioneer High (sorry Herbie):

Mood: Reaches a Mood-era (2013) high of 97 following the big game. Perhaps the only thing keeping it off the max is the potential of something even bigger out there. I’m not sure fans really care about any of that today. For posterity the full view of the historic Mood, much more here.

IGTBAMW. If one image sums up, “It’s great, to be, a Michigan Wolverine”, here it is (via Fox College Hoops):

Uniform Timeline: I’ll say it. My initial reaction was that it was an odd choice to wear the all-blue uniforms in this game? (via mgoblue.com):

However, in the aftermath…Who cares? Who gives a damn? Heck let’s add an all-blue Aidan Hutchinson to this mural inside the Big House:

Uniform Timeline is updated including the addition of the decal for all-time program win #974 (vs. Maryland 11/20/21). I have to wonder if they’ll do a special sticker for Saturday’s win – we’ll find out soon enough.

Matching Ron Johnson. From the #1000SSS Game Notes, “Haskins’ five rushing touchdowns tied the Michigan single-game record set by Ron Johnson (Wisconsin; Nov. 16, 1968).” Out of pure obligation, here’s RJ doing his thing against the Badgers:

Hate Index. Looking ahead to the Hawks, a summary of our non-mutual hatred:

300. Saturday marked the three-hundredth consecutive game with Big House attendance exceeding 100,000. I think half of them made it to the field after the game…

Get up! Someone on Twitter suggested this must be photoshopped. This came straight from #1000SSS, and holy moly:

Celebration. That was pretty wild. At one point it looked like nearly every square inch of the field was covered:
